Fall is in full swing here. It’s officially pumpkin spice and sweater weather! 🎃 Missing this place and I can’t wait to be back in 30A. Nothing beats a fall day at the beach 🐚 My last trip to Santa Rosa beach inspired me in so many ways. I left wanting to emulate the minimalist, serene vibe of the Airbnb we stayed at. Traveling has made Chris & I realize just how little we really need. Imagine your dream home. Is it cluttered? Mine isn’t. So we are embarking on a major project here. We want to have the clutter cleared out by Christmas! 🎄I started in Willow’s room. I literally took everything out. Painted the walls, trim, and furniture. It’s almost completely done. I just have the wallpaper left to do. What about you? Are you a minimalist? A maximalist? Or somewhere in between?

In case you were wondering, that’s my husband sassing me! 😂 I’m always stalking my kids with my camera. I think it’s a hazard of my job. August is always the first one to flash a smile. 📸 Speaking of my job…I’m always on the lookout for photo editing tools. My go to app for photos is always Lightroom. But because video is SO HUGE now…I’m always on the look for editing tools that can be used on mobile! For this post, I used the Facetune video app. It was overcast. So I brightened it and used a filter to lighten and brighten the video. Super happy with the end result. For my latest trip to 30A, I snagged the Lightroom presets from @jamiray. Obsessed! Our daughter, Willow, was diagnosed with #Autism on her 2nd birthday. Her sensory issues, along with her running, made traveling almost impossible. To be perfectly honest just leaving the house was difficult. An outing for our super-sized family of 8 took military style planning.

Things that most people took for granted: going to the store, out to dinner, visiting with friends and family, or even going to church, were luxuries for us. I’d be lying if it told you we never got lonely. I know it’s hard to believe but sometimes when we would request simple safety measures to keep our daughter safe and allow us to participate...they were done begrudgingly, ignored completely, or we were criticized. Because it was an inconvenience for them. Sound familiar?

This past year most of the country is struggling with similar obstacles, due to COVID-19. Ironically, while the world was falling apart—our family hit our stride. The kids are older and Willow has matured enough to make traveling possible. We are making up for lost time!!! We just got back from our 3rd trip to 30A in Florida. 🏖️🍊

Every dark cloud has a silver lining. In many ways, the pandemic has made healthcare (via telemedicine), shopping, and dining accessible for the homebound. Most employers are also offering working remotely as an option. Zoom calls are common place now. I’m not minimizing the effects of the Corona virus. 🦠 Just offering a different perspective. When this is over—let’s not forget society’s most vulnerable. We need each other.

Let’s talk technology. Do you embrace it? Or loathe it? For me personally, I embrace it. I know that the use of electronics is really frowned upon, especially in children. But it’s here and it’s not going away. I started this account to share the ways that I use technology to make my life easier. I know I might ruffle some feathers but I don’t have an issue with screen time. My kids aren’t particularly athletic. They enjoy playing games together. I’m okay with that. That being said, they are also HIGHLY sensitive. They do a good job of guarding themselves from inappropriate content. The same [high] standards we expect in our home apply to what they play and watch online. Here are a few guidelines that have helped us. Some families do NOT shield there kids from language, or gore. We don’t watch scary stuff in front of the kids. To be perfectly honest, my husband and I don’t like horror movies. We don’t cuss in front of the kids. We’re affectionate but not hyper-sexual. We look up movie reviews. We’re that family. Children are only innocent for a short period of time. Let them be kids! Here’s a few guidelines we use when choosing games.
1). No blood. It is well documented that violent video games desensitizes kids to violence (Columbine). It’s NOT okay for kids to shoot things for entertainment. Especially young ones. It has no redeeming value whatsoever.
2). No electronics at the table. Period.
3). No chat for young kids. That has the potential to expose them to cursing, inappropriate comments, bullying, or predators.
4). Inform them about hackers and spam. We tell our kids NOT to click on anything.
5). Look at the age ratings.
6). If your kids are on YouTube, use the Safety settings.
7). No social media. Typically, my kids create their accounts when they start applying for college.
Games like Minecraft or Roblox are good choices. The internet isn’t bad, or good. It’s where you look. Your kids are one search away from seeing something they can’t unsee. Do the pre-work I’m not trying to force anyone to use the same standards. I’m just sharing what works for me. To help keep my children safe, protect themselves, and have a better life. #eComMom

Do you have a travel #BucketList? I do and I highly encourage you to do the same. A Harvard Business Study found that the 3% of graduates from their MBA who had their goals written down, ended up earning ten times as much as the other 97% put together, just ten years after graduation. The results were clear: Participants who wrote down their goals achieved those desires at a significantly higher level than those who didn't. Another study also found that you become 42% more likely to achieve your goals and dreams, simply by writing them down on a daily basis. So what’s it going to be? Is travel just a dream for you? Make it a reality by writing down your dream destinations. Traveling outside of the United States is scary for me. I am 50 years old and I’ve never left the country. There are a few exceptions that would tempt this Oklahoma girl to leave the wonderful US of A. Here they are:
1). Greece (pictured)
2). Italy
3). France
4). Maldives
5). Monaco (Grand Prix)

My husband @theminipit and I have 6 children. One with special needs. Two girls and four boys. I often get told things like; “You must be a Saint”, “You must be so patient”, or, “You must be so organized.” I’m none of those things. Period. It’s just grace, love, and hard work. Packing for this many people is no small feat but we gladly do it 1-2X a year to get back to Florida.

When Willow was little her sensory issues were SO bad. Even simple things like going to dinner or traveling were just out of the question. Everything changed when she had scoliosis surgery in 2014. We commuted back and forth between Tulsa & Dallas for several years for her surgery and follow up appointments. We often stayed at the Fairfield Inn, in Plano. It had an amazing indoor pool. She was smitten. Every time we came back home it wouldn’t be long before she started asking for the “home-tel.” That began the start of our family’s love-affair with travel. Ironically, our first trip was a road trip to Longmont, CO in the dead of winter. 🥶 It was fun but it was COLD! The next year, we chose 30A. Y’all we are OBSESSED with it. It’s our happy place. Our energetic kids are right at home on the beach. We are really wanting to either get a vacation home, or retire there. We love it SO much!!! We had initially planned to take our vacation in June. But an emergency prevented us from taking that trip. Our amazing Airbnb host graciously rescheduled us for September. She was even kind enough to offer to refund our money. She was so sweet that we decided to reschedule, rather than stay somewhere else. Definitely plan on staying there again. The only disappointment this time was how churned up the water was. September is the rainy season in Florida. They have also had tropical storms and hurricanes blow through. So it rained almost every day. We would watch the radar and as soon as there was a gap—we ran to the beach. The two pictures I posted are at the same beach two different years. The first one is from June 2019, the second is from September 2021. Blue Mountain Beach is our favorite beach in Florida hands down. It looks like paradise. 🏝Despite the weather, I have to say that this was one of my favorite vacations. For example, we found 8+ hermit crabs, a mermaids purse, and beautiful shells all along the beach. 🐚The rough waters brought some amazing marine life closer to the coast. 🌊 It also cooled off the sand and made perfect sandcastle material. We weren’t able to use our favorite float, named Ducky Momo (you can see him in the 1st pic). But the storms blew in some bigger waves that were perfect for Boogie Boarding! 🏄‍♂️ We took a rainy day trip to @wonderworks_pcb. The kids loved it and had an amazing time. If you haven’t visited @hey30a yet, I can’t recommend it enough!!! My husband and I are Florida crazy. We lived in Jacksonville for 5 years and go back as often as possible. In recent years, we have discovered 30A. It is a collection of master planned beach towns on the Emerald Coast. 🏖 If you haven’t been there yet, I highly recommend. It’s truly a treasure. I have heard of people vacationing on islands and beaches outside of the country. I have no idea why they would spend the money when you have Paradise right here in the United States? Florida’s State Road 30A is nestled between Panama City and Destin. It’s on the Gulf Side along the Emerald Coast. So far…we have visited Santa Rosa Beach, Blue Mountain Beach (our favorite), and Miramar. Next week, we will be visiting Inlet Beach. So I’ll let you know what I think. We had planned to take our trip in June but we had to postpone. Chris prides himself on finding amazing Airbnb‘s. For this trip he did not disappoint. I think I speak for all of us when I say we NEED a vacation. This pandemic stuff stinks! Looking forward to things getting back to normal. I miss being mask-free, gathering with my peeps, and hugs. This space is finally cleared out from #christmas.

This space is finally cleared out from #christmas. Although our holiday was amazing...I’m ready for a change. Recently, we painted our home. One of the most striking changes was our hallway. I tried to paint my two-story foyer myself. It was a #DIY fail! 😂 The worst part was I never finished. We could not figure out a way to get to the ceiling and the trim! It’s sat like that for five years. The color was an AWFUL mustard yellow that I bought on sale. I will tell you that there is a time and a place to hire a professional. I would not recommend trying to paint it two-story foyer yourself it will never look the way way you want it to. I digress.

That being said, I have been so excited to decorate my entryway. We just purchased this mirror from @hobbylobby last night for 40% off. 😍 Chris and I are in the process of updating our home to reflect our personal style. Social media can be a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it can be inspiring. I manage @pinterest accounts for a living. But it is also easy to get wrapped up in #homedecor trends. We aren’t influencers. One of the things to keep in mind is it’s their JOB. They are salespeople who get paid when you buy something that they’ve featured. It’s called #affiliatemarketing. I will tell you that as a mother of 6...most of the homes I see don’t fit our lifestyle. This year, I’m determined to create a home that is organized, beautiful, but family-centered. I’m OBSESSED with gallery walls right now and excited to show you what Chris and I have planned.
